Revisiting an old post but love these dishes

My Tablescape is very simple, yet I find it what I call "Low Country Charm" . Instead of High Tea, we're having low tea. First of all let me say that my grandfather built my table and benches for me in 1994. It is so heavy it took about four men to get the table in the house. It isn't anything fancy but my papa built it just for me and I love it and will always treasure it. Anyway, was going to put a table cloth on it but to be honest I just wanted it to be simple and I wanted the wood to show. Besides it takes two tablecloths for this size table unless I want to make one!

First of all I must share a little history about these dishes. In 1984 we lost our home to a fire. At that time that was probably the closest thing I had ever come to that was in the sense of experiencing a death in the family. Those of you that have went through that will know what I mean....

Anyway, an elderly lady that lived about 5 miles from me came to see us one day bringing a box of dishes. She told us that she had had these dishes for a long time and didn't really need them and wanted us to have them. I have had these dishes all these years. I cannot even begin to tell you how she (through those dishes) ministered to me in our time of need. Over the years I have added to my collection through thrift stores. Recently I was in my friend Paige's store (Three Palms and Resale) and there sat three pieces that matched my set. A large platter, gravy boat and creamer! Needless to say I was in dish heaven! So I call this my "Miss Lossie" Tablescape. Old, simple, plain but yet truly speaks to me of the gift of giving!

I probably have enough of these dishes now to set up for at least 20. I've added to my collection

No table cloth...just the pretty table my papa made.

I just love love these little gold spoons I swooped up at a yard sale..both for 25 cents!

Love my little jewels sitting on the saucer. Just sorta gives the tea cup life!

Had some old material and drug it out and made some napkins. Decided to make what they call the "tea cup" napkins. Not too big and not too little!

Wanted to give it just a little tad of color and decided to use my newly yard sale purchase for $1....Cheese board with cloche with a few lemons and limes.

Who can have a tablescape without candles??? Just love them. Instead of goblits decided to go with tea mugs! I love these glasses!!!!

I really loved how my centerpiece turned out. The wooden bowl I also found at a yard sale for 25 cents! I am telling ya'll, I am the Queen of Cheap! Filled it with roses I already had, added a few lemons and topped it with a votive cup and candle. Oh, one of my granddaughter's added the butterfly.

Everything on the tables is things I've had and collected over the years, bought at thrift stores, GW or yard sales or things I just had in general with exception of the napkins I made.

I have two old wooden chairs, one on each end of the table. Used a rose I had leftover with a piece of greenery and done a very simple chairscape.

I used some of my dessert dishes for coasters!

I've sure enjoyed sharing Miss Lossie's Tablescape with ya'll today. It's been fun!

Red Lights And Stop Signs!

There isn't anything any worse at times than to be running late, in a hurry and you get STOPPED by a red light. Or, we are just about to make it on time but here we drive up to that STOP SIGN. URR! I don't know about you but I need some Stop Signs and Red Lights in my day at times. If I am not working outside the home I am working inside the home and just need a break from doing things...Regardless of whether I am answering the phone on my job or sitting for hours at my sewing machine. We all are busy people! I don't know anyone that isn't busy! Our busy schedules need to interrupted with a little leisure or time of reflection.

Sometimes we just merely need to STOP and breathe!

Take a minute out for yourself and away from the busyness of life....

There are two ways of making it through our busy life. One way is to STOP thinking....the 2nd one is to STOP and think! Many of us live the first way! We tend to fill every hour with activity.

Let us Stop and think about what is important in our life and if being so busy being busy is really necessary. Look at the interruptions in your life as maybe the Lord nudging at you to STOP and rest in Him a moment. Or to STOP and reflect on His goodness.
STOP, and enjoy a cup of tea or cup of coffee and say, "This is the day the Lord has made; lets be glad and rejoice in it". Psalm 118:24

FLIP FLOP CAKE

I'd had several ladies ask me about the flip flop cake I done for my oldest granddaughter's birthday so I found the link for you.
This cake is so simple and can be decorated anyway you'd like.
I used the template from the link. Everything on the cake was editable except for the silk flowers. I used twizzlers for the straps and candy to decorate the sides of the flip flops. My granddaughter was having a luau party so needless this say this fit right in with her theme and really did turn out cute.

It Don't Get No Better Than This!

There is nothing any better to me than to sit down with my cup of coffee in hand and read, journal, study Bible study and just relax. Love it! I have many devotionals that I pull from but one that I use on a regular basis is "Experiencing God" by Henry & Richard Blackaby. I've not only taken this study but have taught the workbook. This is a book or workbook study that I think every Christian needs to take. I have the paper back book of this as well and I use it so much for devotionals. I've referenced to it so many times that I actually know the page numbers of some of the things I want to go back and look at. This morning while doing my devotional I came across something that just sort of jumped out at me! I've read it many times already but this morning it LEAPED off the page! God is so cute like that isn't He? He knows what we need when we need it.

With coffee in one hand and my book in the other God began speaking to my heart.....

The piece I was reading was speaking about when the Holy Spirit speaks something to our hearts then it's our job to do something with it. We are not to just sit and 2nd guess God nor allow what He has spoken to us to just lay dormant. We are to act upon it. If we don't we give Satan time to steel that away from us. "What you do after the Holy Spirit speaks will have enormous consequences for you and THOSE AROUND YOU!
Did you see that? So many times we launch ourselves into a debate type of discussion with God questioning the correctness of His directions. We are so busy debating with Him that we miss it! And guess what? That means someone else will miss it too!

If God speaks to your heart that you need to call someone today and invite then to church... Do it! If you don't then someone else probably will. And it may not a Bible, Believing, Teaching, Church!

If God speaks to your heart that He has a ministry for you to do at church or in your community....Do It! That ministry for the Lord is not only for you but for so many others! Someone may come to know Jesus as their Savior ONLY because you chose to be obedient!

If you feel the leading of God telling you hug the un-huggable then Do it! That may be the only HUG that person ever gets!

Whatever His voice is whispering for you to do for HIM do not hesitate! What we DO and DON'T do affects us and others.

A former Pastor's wife said once, "When God Speaks move quickly....if you don't then you give Satan opportunity to step in.

WHAT IS FAMILY?

A group of kindred or closely related individuals. 

My heart is burdened today for families.   

The American family is falling apart. Consider the following statistics.  In 1950, about one out of every 20 children born in this country was  born to an unmarried woman -- and there were very few abortions. By  1990, more than one out of every 4 children was born to an unmarried  woman -- and hundreds of thousands more were aborted. Approximately half  of all marriages that take place this year in the U.S. will end in  divorce. 

What is wrong with families today? The Biblical answer is clear: We  have believed society's lies and ignored Biblical truth. 

What are some  of these lies? Here are three:

Society's lie #1: Men and woman are essentially the same. The Bible tells us that, while equal before God, we are different in important ways

Society's lie #2: We need to stand up for our own rights  and demand that our own needs are met -- even if that means breaking a  solemn marriage vow, deserting our children, or rebelling against our  parents. It has been stated that; "Fewer than half of all adult  Americans today regard the idea of sacrifice for others as a positive  moral virtue." What does the Bible tell us? "He who seeks to gain his  own life will lose it" and "it is more blessed to give than to receive."

Society's lie #3: Children are a burden, or, at best, an  ornament, or, perhaps, an experience. It's useful to have one in order  to go through the experience, but take care that you don't spoil your  life prospects by having too many. The Bible says: "Children are an  inheritance from the Lord; the fruit of the womb a reward from him. Like  arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth.  Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them." (Psalm 127) Children  are God's; we "inherit" them from him, to bring up and hold in trust.  They are gifts, rewards; our lives are filled by being poured out for  them.

(1) What were men and women created to do? How do we differ?

(2) What is the relationship between husband and wife in a marriage founded on Biblical principles?

(3) What is the relationship between parents and children in a family founded on Biblical principles?

In all honesty...if we would LIVE this scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5

Get out your Bible and search the scriptures...God's Word is True and His Principles for FAMILY are found in the Living Word Of God!

Spring PJ's & Funny Faces

This 4 year old granddaughter of mine is nothing short of a FUNNY mess! I had whipped up a pair of "Spring" PJ's for her out of some scrap material I had laying around. Needless to say she spotted the PJ's and JUST had to wear them! ALL DAY!!!!!!!!! I told her, "Mallory, Nana made those for you to wear for Spring". She said, "Nana, what is Spring?". I decided it wasn't worth even trying to explain. Then she proceeded with her photo shoot....she is too funny! Wanted to share one my precious grands with you today and of course the cute and easy PJ's she loved!

God Keeps His Promises

The Bible is the word of God and is powerful and life changing. The promises of God start with 2 Timothy 3:16 when God tells us that all Scriptures in the Bible are inspired by God. With this promise of God in hand we can then be assured that what we learn in the Bible comes from Him!

There is so many promises in His Word that Christ has given us but one of my favorite promises that has affected my life greatly is;

Romans 8:37-39

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

52 week challenge..better known for me as ACTS OF KINDNESS (AOK)

My 52 Week Challenge is called AOK (Acts of Kindness) The challenge is simple and yet very challenging at the same time. Each week I will do something "extra special" for someone. It might be as simple as sending a card to someone that needs an extra special touch, a pan of cookies for no reason, a plate of food, a wrapped gift, or whatever! The ideas are endless. WHY? Everyone desires kindness. Even if you are the type of person that loves giving to others and you do that regular this is a different type of challenge. This is to challenge us to really think and pray for guidance. "Who needs what this week Lord? I can assure you that you will get the bigger blessing. My challenge with AOK started on January 6th. I am excited as to whom God would like me to bless this week. How about you? Are you up for the challenge?

I have been like many others making New Year Resolutions that had to do with life style changes in the past and for the most part have not succeeded. Things such as, “Eat healthier, exercise more, loose at least 10 lbs, learn to say NO, and etc! I can assure you that the things I just mentioned are still much needed in my life. During the holiday season my goal was to be more of a Mary instead of a Martha. I actually succeeded with this goal though I must admit that there was a few days that I struggled with this. However with that mind-set I thought about the New Year and what I would like to be better at. My goal is to practice the 5 love languages...If you ever get the chance to read this book by Gary Chapman I highly recommend it.

1: Speak words of affirmation...have positive things to say instead of negative. Speak words of encouragement to others. Build one another up with our words.

2: Quality Time...spend more time with others & especially those that are near & dear to my heart. Like my family & close friends….we tend to take those people for granite.

3: Giving Gifts...which is basically a noun that denotes acts or actions. A gift doesn’t necessarily have to momentary. Bake someone a pan of cookies for no reason...mail them a card of encouragement….etc...

4: Acts of Service...most of the time our acts of service involves something we like to do or do not mind doing...but...what about those acts of service we might not like very well?

5: Physical touch: Though some may not like to hug and that is alright but it never hurts to simply pat someone on the back for comfort, encouragement, job well done or just to show kindness. Physical touch can be simply to hold another sisters hand as you pray for her...

What would you like to accomplish for this brand new year of 2012? Life is short, time is at hand so let us strive to be more Christ-like in every area of our life!

Haven't Thrift Store Shopped in a while but decided to stop at a few and ran across a few goodies.

Found this cute little outfit for $1. Mint condition. Washed that cutie up and grandbaby has a play outfit!

When I come across cute little outfits for the granddaughters to play dress up in at my house I always try to grab them if the price is right...and the PRICE WAS RIGHT!

This little precious dress is just that...precious! I am not a Name Brand person...if I like it I get it whether it is name brand or not. However I was delighted to find this adorable Bonnie Jean Of New York dress for my oldest granddaughter. It is too big for her now but she can play in it for the mere $2.99 I paid for it.

Found this cute little gold basket holder. Perfect to hold my Luncheon napkins in for the holidays. Especially when all I paid was 25 cents for it.

I love me a Bunny! Saw this cute little piece I plan to use next Spring displayed on an easel. Yep, it's a Dollar Tree Item and had the price tag of 75 cents on it but ask me what I paid??????

10 cents! Yep, I said 10 cents! There was a whole bin of items marked "Special of the day" for 10 cents. This was the only thing I found in the bin I wanted but for 10 cents......

PRINCESS TEA PARTY

TURN YOUR VOLUME UP AND LISTEN AS YOU WITNESS SOME OF THE MOST PRECIOUS GIFTS FROM OUR LORD......OUR CHILDREN!

Princess Tea Party Pictures are ready to see! What a great time we had. It was lots of fun but I must say, this NANA was wore out! Someone asked me, "Why would you go to that trouble and expense? Well, LOOK AT THESE PICTURES and you will see why! I loved it!

The little girls loved the makeup needless to say. I had three ladies help to put their makeup on. The pink gloves you see laying on the stand belonged to my oldest daughter who is now 32 years old.


The Candy Buffet was the hit! The dress on the dress form was one of the many proms dresses that belonged to my middle daughter. Of course my all-time favorite little tea set.

The pretty tablescape I used with the tea pots and snack dishes really gave it the TEA PARTY feel! The ladies had the cloth napkins but I used paper napkins for the little girls and instead of using ribbon I used a ring to go around each napkin. The little girls loved it! At each setting for the girls they had a wand, and a goody bag filled. They could hardly eat for wanting to get into the goody bag!

Another view of the tablescape along with the tissues balls I had hanging and prom dresses hung all over my porch! Of course with 3 daughters and all of them with dresses I couldn't possibly hang them up all.

The front door held the sign and the lounge seat held all the little gifts the girls received from the Queen! Which so happened to be me! It was my party after all!

Each girl received a small gift to open. You would have thought it was Christmas time!

Yep, either she is REAL EXCITED or this is down right scarey!

This was the cutest thing to me! I had placed a glass slipper (plastic) on each gift and Kiley was trying her best to see if the glass slipper fit! Of course the girls had just had story time...None other than Cinderella!

Then the Fashion show begins. The girls had a variety of clothing, jewelry, shoes, purses and etc. to pick from. Then each girl came out and paraded around for us. So cute!

I have not posted since July 2010!!!! Where has the time gone? I've had many ladies ask me "When are you going to start blogging again?". I do love it but sometimes finding the time is the problem. I do have so much I'd like to share with you all and thought why not start today! Am I the only one struggling these days to keep up with posting? Finally decided I needed to post some July 4th pics from my dining room table! Decided this year to do something very simple, light and yet fun. I made things simple on myself with my red, white & blue! Decided to begin with a simple cheap place-setting. Bottom plate is the camper's blue ironstone...Bought a bunch at GW back in Feb. Then just your simple paper red plates from Dollar tree. Patriotic square paper plates from Dollar Tree and my white glass saucers from GW. Of course the napkins came from Dollar Tree as well.

Napkins were cloth (4 to pack for $2) Walmart and my silverware was mixed-matched pieces.

Found this red pretty candle holder at GW for $1.99 and had the white candle already.

Wanted something a little different for centerpiece so took a plastic bowl and plastic plate I bought at Dollar Tree (Red), A glass candlestick I had so painted it white and glued the pieces together. One week I had nothing but apples in it, one week was filled with the patriotic Debbie Cakes, one week peppermints and well you get the idea! Needless to say my grandbabies loved it cause they never knew what the cute centerpiece would have in it for them! The placemat it is setting on came from Dollar Tree as well.

Had to have a Patriotic Star...Hung on my back door knob.

Since I have only 2 chairs at my table--and two benches, decided to put the cute little bows on the back of the chairs.

Used red and white plastic cups. Coaster also came from Dollar Tree. Added a few more candles and it was very simple and the grandbabies loved it.

Well it is time to share some of my favorite pictures. My oldest two grandchildren spent a week vacation at the lake and my granddaughter learned to ski and barefoot. My grandson had a good time cheering on his sister and friends to new endeavors at the lake. He wasn't much on trying out new things on the water. Though he does love to get on that big old tube behind the boat and go for miles! Hope you enjoy my grands.

I almost didn't get this next little goody b/c I only saw one....but, you can always have a tea party for one right? Beautiful tea pot napkin ring for 99 cents.

Found this cute green plate with a darling bunny on it for 99 cents. Just had to have it. Goes with my green pitcher.

And lastly I found 4 of these cute little lavender and white plates that I thought would be so cute to use with other pastel colors in the Spring./Easter. They didn't have a price on them so the lady charged me 29 cents each from GW.

Well I have been a slacker on FOTO FRIDAY but just had to share these pictures of my youngest granddaughter. She loves to have a TEA POTTY! That is what she calls it!

I am not sure what she likes best, Tea Party or a Book. Loves to grab an old pair of glasses and a book. This particular time she was "reading to her bears".

LEMONADE PARTY

I know so many of you have heard me talk for two months about having a lemonade party for some moms at my home. Well we had the party and enjoyed it so much. Here is the post about the invitations I made:

I've had such a good time preparing and planning for this party. It was a lovely Saturday morning event beginning at 11:30 a.m. Our party was to end at 1:00 p.m. but several stayed till 3:00 p.m. and we had the best fellowship. I had so many pictures that I decided to do collages for you to see.
First for those that might have missed this post I'd like to share with you why I had the lemonade party. I felt so led to do a little something for some of the younger moms that go to my church by giving them a few hours to themselves. A chance to eat (IN PEACE) ha!, a chance to visit the other ladies without INTERRUPTIONS, and mainly, just a little DOWN TIME! I decided instead of doing finger foods for these precious gals I would cook them a home-cooked meal along with a few doorprizes and a guest speaker. Our theme was "When Life Hands You Lemons, Make Lemonade". I based the theme off of Phillipians 4:11. Which talks about being content. Basically to me, the scripture tells us how to take the obstacles in life and turn them into opportunites. So that is how this Lemonade Journey began. I sent out postcard invitations in March. I wanted the ladies to have a heads-up on the date and time just so they could plan for this special day. We're all busy women so that worked out wonderful. Gave these moms time to get a baby sitter. Then in April I officially gave them their invitations I made. Which that post is at the top of this page. Now onto a few pictures....Click on photo and they will be larger.
You see in this picture some of the items on the table. As you see the gift baskets I loaded it with girly stuff! The dishes consisted of: Blue Camping plates I found at GW for 50 cents each. White salad plates I found at GW for 29 cents each. Mixed-match silverware from here and there. Cloth napkins from a Thrift Store. Napkin rings are actually shower curtain rings with a piece of ribbon tied on them. The cute little block there at the top with flowers on it came from Lowe's. I just made a floral arrangment and tied some ribbon on it and it worked just great for a table arrangement.

Another block I used as well with the pretty arrangment. I had two sitting in my shed so why not put them to use! Funny thing is, I was shooting pics at a wedding last night and the reception was covered with these blocks decorated. They really do make cute decor pieces. My stemware was all mixed-matched. Already had those. Blue Camper Tea Pot I found at an yard sale. Had the flowers that are in and it really made a pretty centerpiece. The coasters you see are some I made. Bought 4x4 tile pieces. Made the little lemon picture (which is what I used on my invitations) on the computer. Cut them out a tad smaller than the tile and modgepodged away! Turned out adorable and was so easy! I used acrylic sealer to seal them and used some of those little round things to go on the back to keep the coasters from scratching up your table. (Forget what they are called, but you can buy 8 in a pack at dollar tree for $1.) I had quite a few silk yellow roses in my shed so added those to a green plant I had for color.

For the place mats I used mixed match once again. Different ones I had found at places like Walmart, GW and Dollar Tree. The Picture of the teapot there with the lemons on the wall is actually a placemat I got from Walmart. The photo in the white frame I made on the computer. It didn's show up real good here but it actually turned out pretty. I had the frame already and just sprayed painted it white. Cushions you see on the bench (which I bought some for my rockers as well) came from a Thrift store. The color was perfect. And they were only $2 each. All the little candy dishes you see on the table are candle sticks with candy dishes or ivy bowls that I used my best friend Liquid nails and glued them together.

Of course I have fell in love with apothocarey jars now. So was delighted to find this small one for 99 cents @ GW. Oh my lemons looked so cute in the jar. The small tea jar you see with the lemons in it is just the cutest thing. My daughter Melissa bought this for me and it actually holds about 2 gal. of drink. More blue, yellow and white flowers on the front door. Was hunting for something to put the flowers in and found these flush style planters in my shed....love my shed btw....had them from my middle daughter's wedding and forgot I had them. Worked perfectly on my front door. And how can you go wrong when you have a green fern???? And BTW I have two of those white wickers planters that I have had for years and found those at a yard sale years ago and paid $3 each.

The curtains you see I found at a Thrift store and decided to put them over each window on my front porch. The curtains really gave it the feeling of home. My husband called it "The Lemonade Bistro". I had water/tea glass goblits on the table but found these adorable plastic punch cups at a yard sale for 25 cents for a whole pack. Thought they would be nice to use for the lemonade. Sliced a few lemons and placed them on the side and chilled them in the freezer till right before my first guests arrived. The Thankyou gift basket you see was filled to the brim. I had each guest bring one lemon. So, not only did our guest speaker have a basket of goodies she had her very own lemons to make lemonade with!

Once again, an Ivy dish glued to a candle stick just winds up being so cute. Found the lemon candle at GW for 50 cents!For one of the doorprizes I even found lemon scented hand soup in a lemon dispencer...Dollar Tree....yep, you guessed it. FOR $1. I used several patterns of glass goblits but the one you see in photo is one of my favorites. Always so elegant looking. And yes, my lemonade icecream dessert......More about that in the next picture.

Now for the lemonade dessert: I got the recipe for Heather at Life In A Click http://ourlifeinaclick.blogspot.com/2010/05/recipe-lemonade-icecream-dessert.html Be sure to visit her lovely blog. The recipe is on this link for you. She made in a casserole dish. I decided to do indiv. servings. Had punch cups left over from a party in Dec. Then I found the cutest little picks shaped just like a fork. And I found them at a Thrift Store. There they sat....in a sealed box for 50 cents. Made the cute little tags on the computer to go along with my theme and hot glued the tags to the fork picks and stuck them in the dessert after they were partially frozen. The tray they were in, which you can't see really well was this cute little wooden tray I found at GW for $1.99.

The litle blue and yellow coaster what looks like a mini picture is actually what I used for the coasters. I made those as well on the computer and laminated them. The container that holds the lemonade I found at Ross for $8. I couldn't beleive it...only $8 and I love it! The yellow bucket held the lemonade icecream recipe so each lady would have one to take home. On the recipe I put Heather's blog and also a picture she had made of her dessert. I glued a little daisy to each one. Used my good ole tea cart I have had for years to put our tea on and of course several other things I thought would be cute. I framed our menu for the day so the ladies would know what they were eating!

And though I failed to get a picture of this by itself I wanted to share it with you. I got the idea from Michelle at Maddycakes Muse http://maddycakesmuse.blogspot.com/2010/04/cool-centerpieces.html You got to check her blog out.This was the cutest idea ever using jello and flowers and pretty containers! I just so happen to have all three. Turned out really adorable for my party.

My guest speaker just so happened to be my friend from many moons ago! Yep, been friends since early elementary days. She said she was not a Speaker just a Talker, Ha! Her message was wonderful and encouraging. Her message was basically that we are to take the things in life that are bad, sad, trying, trials and etc. and look for ways to turn them into opportunities. And that sometimes it may take a while to see how lemonade was made out of the lemons in our life. She ended her message with, "God is a God of second chances".

Of course I can't have a party without having my Motherinlove join us. She enjoys parties so much and I couldn't have imagined not having her to share our special day. All the younger women just love her. They call her Nanny! Here is a picture of me, my motherinlove and my best friend that spoke for me.

Oh I almost forgot: Our menu was simple, yet just plain good! For our appetizer which we had first I made a lemon cream cheese spread with crackers. They loved it! They think I worked in the kitchen for hours on that "spread" and I think I will just let them think that! Don't think I will tell them it was Apple Jelly, grated lemon rind and lemon juice mixed together and pour over a bar of cream cheese!!!!! Then for our salad I made a 7 layer salad. Then two of my daughters helped me to serve my guests the main meal....Chicken Casserole, Seasoned Green Beans and rolls. Of course Tea, Water and good old Lemonade was our drink. We ended our meal with the wonderful lemonade icecream dessert that Heather shared with me. I had 3 door prizes which consisted of all things needed to pamper a woman. We played a game, talked, laughed and just had fun! I truly felt blessed being able to share a part of my life with these ladies and giving them an opportunity to share their lives with me.

I hope that you have enjoyed your visit to my lemonade party. The only thing that could have made it better would have been if you could of been here too! Remember, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade!

Today I am not posting Thrift store items but things I got a DEAL on....The plant holder I got for $5 at Walmart. The greenery and few flowers in the plant holder I already had.
The apothcarey jar I found at Ace Hardware and it was half price. So got that cutie for $8. The pretty wooden box on the bottom shelf I found at Family Dollar for $3. I love those kind of boxes.

Bought the little stand at Ross for $15.00. Perfect size for my bathroom. Found the towel holder you see for $8 @ Ross and the small planter which I use for towels as well for $4 at Ross. I love that store!

Found these darling prints for my bathroom at Family Dollar for $6 each. Didn't like the color of frame so repainted them.

My Cute Little Invitations

I know you've heard me talk about having "A Lemonade Party" at my house for some time now. The whole purpose of this little party was to gather a few young moms together from our church and give them an opportunity to spend some quality time with other ladies without the kids. So, the party is this coming Sat. on my front porch! I am so excited about the lemonade party. I sent our post card invitations in March to let the ladies know AHEAD of time about the party so #1 they could mark their calendar (we are busy ladies) and #2, get a baby sitter. The 3rd week in April I gave them their official invitations. My little homemade invitations turned out cute and wanted to share with them with you.
I purchased some simple brown bags with handles. On the computer I made the name tags for each guest and glued to the front of the bag and then glued a ribbon on the front.

On the back of each bag I made another tag with lemons on it with "When Life Hands You Lemons Make Lemonade" and the the words Phil: 4:11 which says, "For I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
Which to me personally says, "Take the obstacles in your life and turn then into opportunites.

I made the invitations on the computer. On the front highlights the date, time and etc and on the back I gave directions to the Lemonade party on the porch! Also made a small brochure with all kinds of uses for lemons. Added a lemonade recipe to the front as well.

Lemon cookie, Lemon heads, Lemonade, Tea bag, and the brochure with all the uses for lemons.

They turned out so cute and the ladies seem to really enjoy their personalized invitation. I've got 13 ladies coming to the party on Saturday. It should be fun.

Oh my friend Sharyl over at http://thelittlebrownhouse.us/ is going to want my clock! She loves her some clocks! Matter of fact it is her fault I can't even walk into a Thrift store without looking at the clocks!

Then I found this cute little bowl for 99 cents. Now, I realize it doesn't look much but you just wait till I slap a glass candle stick underneath it with my liquid nail!

I really love this wire basket. It was $1.99 and I almost did not buy it. But I loved the detail on it and my first thought was this would be such a cute gift with all sorts of goodies inside!

I thought this little vase was just a cutie for 50 cents.

Found this silver 3-plate snacky thing and knew I had to have it for $1.99.

Found some more white plates. Got them for $1 each. But as so many of you have said, "You can't go wrong with white plates". I have a friend that says that about black pants. She says if you have at least one pair of black pants you are good to go! Well, if you have a few white dishes....anything goes!

I wish I could have found more like this because I do like that basket weave pattern.

This glass platter is one of my favorite patterns. I have a lot of this type pattern dishes. Have no clue what the real name of this is and if you know please share with me....but I have always called it the Star of David dishes...Just looks like that to me. But love this pattern. Found this lovely platter for $5.

And do I ever love me some snack plates. I have tons of them...This particular pattern I had a small set of and gave away as a gift a few years ago. Just happen to see 7 of these white milk glass snack plates for $2 each and I knew I might as well get them cause I would be mad at myself If I didn't. Ha! The cups I bought to use with them were 50 cents each. Now they aren't the cups that really go with this but....they matched pretty dad-burn good to me!

Don;t you just love these lovely napkins? 12 in pack for $3.

And on my way home decided to stop at Bealls Outlet....Found these adorable rose shower curtain rings on the clearance aisle. They were $6.99 and got them for $3.50.

And my intentions aren't using them for a shower curtain.....I am going to use them for napkins rings! Love them!

My youngest granddaugher, 2 1/2 got to go to Disney On Ice. Needless to say her mom (my daughter) dressed her as Belle. And oh was she a lovely Belle.

She wanted to show me her braclet!

Of course everything she had on came from the Disney Store.

She decided that she was through with the pictures!

Inside we went so she could draw on her princess chalkboard.

Isn't she just a lovely Belle?

And, she enjoyed every minute of the show!

A few Keepers!

Found this beautiful glass piece which is very heavy at a Thrift Store for $2.99.

Another glass tea pitcher which is was so hard for me to pass up for $1.99 at the Thrift Store.

Cute butterfly basket for $1.00 at the Thrift Store.

And then I found this thingy-gingy! Is that even a word? I almost didn't get it but then it was only 50 cents! And I passed by it twice and it was one of those deals that I said, "Ok, it is still sitting there when I walk by again...for the 3rd time....I am getting it! Now isn't that just a great way to talk yourself into buying something or either talk yourself out of buying something????? But for 50 cents!!!!
Well, it was still there and it came home with me. Needless to say the ideas are really endless when using this. I have already thought how lovely a cake would look on top of it on a pretty cake plate with flowers at the bottom. Or...a nice bowl of salad sitting nestled on top. Or....or.....or.....

And you know things just ain't normal for me if I don't go by Walmart and to look on the clearance asle.....Found 6 of these plates on the clearance asle that had been marked down to $1 for each. Bought all 6! Love them.

And last but not least my gravy bowl with matching platter that matches my dishes....

A Few Embellishments!

Some of you know from my Foto Friday that my oldest granddaughter was celebrating her 6th birthday. Can see her pictures of her first manicure and pedicure here http://creationsbycindyphotography.blogspot.com/2010/04/foto-friday_16.html
Well I just had to do a little something more you know for my oldest granddaughter. Decided to play around with a needle and thread! That could be scarey at times! Ha! Bought just a plain white top and a black skort. Found a pair of black flip flops too. Wanted to embellish it a tad though so it would look more girly. I had this cute black and white ribbon and some white/yellow flower buttons and thought, "Now why I can't I use this to add some embellishments and doll this little outfit up. Made these little rossets or thingy's or whatever it is you may want to call it!
So started out with the white top.

I like the way it looked and proceeded to the skort.

I really thought the added piece just really gave the plain black skort some pop.

Then the flip flops was next!

I really like the way they turned out. I had bought a white and a black headband so decided to touch them up as well.

Then I just sorta went crazy ya'll. I thought ooh, I got more ribbon and buttons to do somthing with. Made her a little tie braclet.

Then of course she just had to have a purse to finish off the outfit....

And there it all was! Just turned out cute as a button and needless to say she was tickled with it!

A seamtress NO............But a NANA THAT LOVES DOING THINGS LIKE THIS FOR THE GRANDS.....YES!

Some Of My Favorite Things

This is a few picnic baskets I have managed to collect. They all were bought at GW...I have several real small ones as well that are not in the picture. I just love stuff like this.

This wire furniture piece I found at Ross. I had been looking for something small, wouldn't take of much space and yet would look somewhat elegant in the corner of my bedroom. I looked and looked and found this for $15. The size and color was perfect and it is just large enough to hold a few of my favorite things. The old wooden chest at the bottom (I had for years), the plant holder is actually a serving bowl on a pedastal that a sweet friend gave to me and the books are my 3 favs to be in my bedroom.

I love this apothacarey jar that my friend Vicky gave to me. Every now and then I cracked the top open for a while just to let the aroma flow. Isn't it pretty?

This next glass jar my middle daughter Melissa gave to me. It is so darling. it actually holds more that you would think. Will be perfect for my lemonade party in May.

Love my floral piece I made using leftover flowers I had stashed away along with a vase I had bought at GW for 75 cents. Looks very nice in front of my bedroom window on a column.

And this little goody just so happens to be my husbands favorite thing today. Chocolate cake with buttercream icing on top!

In honor my oldest granddaughter's 6th birthday which is today....I wanted to share a few pictures of her very first manicure and pedicure. We had such a great afternoon together. Here is where we began the birthday adventure.

Then it was to pick out the color she wanted for her nails and toes.

Then she had to pick which CHAIR she wanted...which the bottoms are shaped like high-heel shoes!

I'm very excited to be joining Susan at Between Naps On The Porch at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

This is my first little bloggers tablescape.... My Tablescape is very simple, yet I find it what I call "Low Country Charm" . Instead of High Tea, we're having low tea. First of all let me say that my grandfather built my table and benches for me in 1994. It is so heavy it took about four men to get the table in the house. It isn't anything fancy but my papa built it just for me and I love it and will always treasure it. Anyway, was going to put a table cloth on it but to be honest I just wanted it to be simple and I wanted the wood to show. Besides it takes two tablecloths for this size table unless I want to make one!

I probably have enough of these dishes now to set up for at least 20. Added to my collection last week was.........

No table cloth...just the pretty table my papa made.

I just love love these little gold spoons I swooped up at a yard sale..both for 25 cents!

Love my little jewels sitting on the saucer. Just sorta gives the tea cup life!

Had some old material and drug it out and made some napkins. Decided to make what they call the "tea cup" napkins. Not too big and not too little!

Wanted to give it just a little tad of color and decided to use my newly yard sale purchase for $1....Cheese board with cloche with a few lemons and limes.

Who can have a tablescape without candles??? Just love them. Instead of goblits decided to go with tea mugs! I love these glasses!!!!

Everything on the tables is things I've had and collected over the years, bought at thrift stores, GW or yard sales or things I just had in general with exception of the napkins I made.

I have two old wooden chairs, one on each end of the table. Used a rose I had leftover with a piece of greenery and done a very simple chairscape.

I used some of my dessert dishes for coasters!

I've sure enjoyed sharing Miss Lossie's Tablescape with ya'll today. It's been fun!

I really enjoy my Tuesdays with Linda at Coastal Charm http://linda-coastalcharm.blogspot.com. You gotta check her blog out! She is wonderfully gifted and talented and hosts such a great party each week.
My friend Paige that owns Three Palms Resale has so many great items in her shop. Let me share my treasures with you I bought from her.

I love this clock! Every time I went into her shop I would eye this sweetie! It's not only heavy but the detail is so pretty to me.

And do you see that price????? It was only $8.95 to start off with and then she had a sale!!!! 25%-50% off of selected items. The PINK slash meant 50% off! Got this little beauty from Paige for $4.50........
I said something to the effect of maybe spray painting it but Paige said NO........She was too funny. She said the color is perfect. I am thinking of a Mantle redo in my living room and this sweet little thing will going on top! Especially since I have a candle stick that matches it too! (Yard Sale-$2)

I also found this Blue Jar. Loved it....It shouted out......
YOU CAN USE THIS FOR YOUR LEMONADE PARTY IN MAY!!! Once again....the pink slash was there! Got this for $5 from Paige.

She only had 3 of these blue and white bowls but I just had to have them. Loved the blue and white and the size of the bowls. She only wanted $1 for each one but got them for 50 cent each. LEMONADE PARTY---LEMONADE PARTY!

Just gotta share these placemats with you too. Found these at Walmart...good ole' Walmart....YEP.................You guessed it! They are for my Lemonade Party!

If I am not mistaken...I only paid $1 for each.
